Reasons for
improving your home’s curb appeal
How many of us
honestly think of our home’s curb appeal after living in
it a few years? After all, sometimes it’s all we can do
to get home after a hard day’s work. Who cares what the
house looks like on the outside when all we need is a
comfortable chair and a hot supper on the inside?
However, there are a few reasons why thinking about curb
appeal now can give you better peace of mind for years
to come.
Having a Pretty Home to Greet You—After fighting a day’s
worth of stress, office noise, and commuter’s gridlock,
just parking outside your own home can begin relaxing
you. Many times, I’ve personally sat outside alone for a
few minutes in my car just to help change my focus
before going inside to greet my wife and kids. Seeing
things like the trees and flowers my family has planted
or the grass I’ve wrestled my kids on have helped me
shift mental gears, relieving stress.
Home Owner
Associations—Some are great, others…well…not so great.
But they all have rules or policies to help maintain the
quality of life for you and your neighbors. Having a
neat front yard is a typical requirement. After all,
keeping up your home’s curb appeal improves everyone’s
lifestyle, from neighbors walking their dogs to the
postal worker delivering your mail.
Speaking of Mail, Lock It Up!—When delivering peace of
mind, many times a locking mailbox is not high on your
list of priorities. But it needs to be. While you’re at
work, your mail is sitting alone…all alone…for hours.
Once the postal worker drops off your mail, it just sits
there waiting for someone to take it out. And since mail
has no way of knowing or caring who removes it, this is
a huge security risk for you. Identity theft takes place
through several avenues, including simply reaching into
your mailbox. Having a locking mailbox is both logical
and affordable. And with the right mailbox, you will
maintain or improve your home’s curb appeal. I suggest
investing in a mailbox that will hold two days worth of
your mail. This will ensure that your mailbox will
properly secure your mail while you’re away. If mail
often hangs out of your mailbox, then your mailbox is
too small and the security features are virtually
useless.
In Case of Emergency—Another way of improving your curb
appeal is by replacing your old, worn out address
numbers with newer ones or perhaps an address plaque.
This accent helps your home stand out from others. It
also helps people not familiar with your home to locate
it more easily.
You may be okay with the pizza guy
driving around the block one more time with your order,
but should you ever have an emergency, making it easier
for fire, ambulance or police personnel to find you is
vital!
Planning to Move?—Roughly 20-percent of Americans move
to a new residence every year. This year, it may be your
turn. If you own your home and are looking to easily
increase its value, consider installing a custom built
brick or stone mailbox that has built-in security
features. The better features include a tamper resistant
top security door, steel or aluminum drop chute, and a
three-point locking retrieval door. Imagine, in about
two week’s time, you can have a beautiful brick or stone
mailbox in front of your home. Now that’s curb appeal!
